The “GIBRALTAR MARITIME DAY” was organized for the first time in Greece, and more specifically in Piraeus, at the historic Piraeus Marina Club, by Level Communications, for the Government of Gibraltar and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Gibraltar.
Among the participants were the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Gemma Arias – Vasquez, Dylan Cocklan, Gibraltar Maritime Administrator, John Chio, CEO and Captain of the Port – Gibraltar Port Authority, and Aaron Lopez, Maritime Academy Manager – University of Gibraltar, who had the opportunity to speak, to present the possibilities and the advantages that Gibraltar may offer to commercial firms and companies active in the field of Shipping and Yachting.
As the Minister of Shipping, Gemma Arias-Vasquez, emphasized in her speech:
“There is huge potential for the shipping industry in Gibraltar and we are here to ensure that this potential is realized. We are here to listen to your needs, your concerns and to provide solutions taking into account all parameters.”
At the conclusion of the speeches, a discussion followed which was moderated by the journalist of ‘Naftemporiki’, Antonis Tsimplakis.
Important questions were raised by shipowners, market executives, institutional bodies, representatives of the chambers as well as a fruitful dialogue that led to useful conclusions.
After thanking all the guests for their presence and active participation, the Minister of Shipping, Gemma Arias-Vasquez, stated at the end of the presentation that all the competent organizations of Gibraltar will process and utilize all the information they collected, with the ultimate goal the immediate submission of specific proposals.
All those who attended the event came to the common conclusion that the port of Gibraltar, undeniably, has a strategic role in the global economy and should be the first choice of all companies in the Mediterranean.
