The Greek-controlled merchant fleet posted a marginal decrease of 0.7 percent in January 2016, according to figures released on Friday by the Greek statistics service EL.STAT.
Specifically, the number of vessels above 100 in gross register tonnage stood at 1,838, of which 472 are bulk carriers; 520 are tankers; 609 are passenger ships and 237 of all other categories.
Of those, the majority (751) are more than 30 years old, while just 125 are under five years old.
Total capacity also fell by 0.9 percent during the same period, as opposed to an increase of 1 percent in January 2015.
