A contract for the supply of eleven (11) boats suitably configured with sanitary equipment, over 11m long, was signed by the Minister of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy, Christos Stylianidis, and the general manager of Viking Norsafe Life-Saving Equipment Hellas, Ioannis Georgiadis.
According to the ministry, since the Hellenic Coast Guard undertakes the transport of patients almost every day, the integration of this equipment plays a decisive role in saving lives. At the same time, it strengthens the possibility of providing health care in the areas that are far from the central health structures of our country and shields even more the islands to which they will be allocated, including Thassos, Psara, Agios Efstratios, Fourni, Kea, Lipsi, Kasos, North Evia, Zakynthos, Sfakia and Ierapetra. In this way, the citizens’ sense of security increases. A fact which is particularly important in island and remote areas, for cases where citizens and visitors need immediate and effective health support.
The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Christos Stylianidis, commented: “The signing of the contract is an important step, on the one hand for strengthening the operational capabilities of our Coast Guard, and on the other for the even more effective protection of public health, which is consistently one of the central objectives of the State. Strengthening the health capabilities of the Coast Guard will contribute decisively to the feeling of security and ultimately, to the very well-being of our citizens, especially those who decide to live in islands or remote areas. They are not citizens with reduced rights, on the contrary, they have exactly the same rights and claims that every citizen has, whether they live in an urban center or not.”
