Two important agreements, one of which concerns the launch of a tugboat line from the two shipyards of the ONEX Group were signed on the sidelines of the Posidonia maritime exhibition.
The first agreement concerns the exclusive collaboration signed by the ONEX Group with the largest tugboat design company in the world, the Canadian Robert Allan, about the exclusive rights to build a specific series of tugboats in Greece.
The second agreement concerns the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Union of Hellenic Shipyards and the Hellenic Ports Association (ELIME), with the aim of committing both entities to change the way shipyards and ports operate, aiming at greater safety.
Historic agreement
The president of the Union of Hellenic Shipyards and CEO of ONEX, Panos Xenokostas, before the signing of the two agreements, announced that the goal is to build 30 tugboats, of which at least 20 of them will be delivered by the end of 2026.
He also spoke of a historic agreement that exceeds 280 million euros and which will create hundreds of jobs, not only in the shipyards, but also in the companies that will support this collaboration and venture.
Xenokostas thanked the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy for its important contribution to the formation of the institutional framework for Greek shipyards.
Strengthening the economy
Referring to the relevant agreements, the Secretary General of Ports, Port Policy and Maritime Investments, Evangelos Kyriazopoulos, said that the specific shipyards will build state-of-the-art tugs, which will increase and improve security in Greek ports.
“The technology of ships is increasing more and more. We want more safety. It is important for Greece that the two shipyards start a production line, as in this way they will be able to have export activity in the future, which will strengthen the shipbuilding industry and the Greek economy at the same time,” he said.
