“Attica is ready for the next day of Greek shipping,” the president of Attica Group, Kyriakos Mageiras, said at the 1st Conference of the Union of Hellenic Shipyards.
Mageiras referred to Attica’s large investment program of up to 1 billion euros, which, as he pointed out, has not only been planned, but has already begun to be implemented.
“A program of modernization, digital transformation, integration of artificial intelligence, but also environmental upgrading of the ships,” he noted.
He described shipping as a national product. “We are called upon to deal with it as part of our national infrastructure and meet the needs of island Greece. Of course, in order to achieve this, it is not only necessary to modernize the ships, but also the port infrastructure,” he stated and added:
“We expect investments to be made in the ports so that our country has the infrastructure that corresponds to the tourist product we want to sell. We build 5-star hotels in destinations that have low-quality ports. We need modern ports with high safety standards and quality services.”
Concluding, Mageiras underlined that Attica has completed the integration of ANEK and has a fleet of 45 ships. It has also committed to a large investment in the modernization and development of this fleet. “The memorandum of cooperation with ONEX certifies our commitment, because our goal is to help Greece and bring more investments. Greek shipowners must invest and support the Greek shipbuilding industry. It is an opportunity for the country,” the president of Attica stressed.
