Deme and Faria Renewables have signed a cooperation agreement for the exploration and joint development of offshore wind farms in Greece.
Recognizing the unique growth potential of the offshore wind industry in the Mediterranean and the evolving market, both companies aim to play a significant role in the area.
Offshore wind technology is considered vital to achieving global zero CO2 emissions targets. In support of these goals, the Greek government recently announced the “National Offshore Wind Farm Development Program” project, which is overseen by the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA).
The program defines eligible Organized Development Areas and estimates a capacity of approximately 4.9 GW of Offshore Wind Farms that can be developed in the medium term (until 2030-2032), excluding the sea area between Evros-Samothraki which is intended for pilot projects.
In addition, the program estimates that a long-term (after 2030-2032) project portfolio of around 12.4 GW could be developed.
Collaboration with local agencies
Deme and Faria Renewables will work together, leveraging their experience and know-how to date, to assess the Greek marine area, identify optimal locations for the development of offshore wind farms, conduct surveys, collaborate with stakeholders and local communities, to support and create synergies with the local supply chain, with the ultimate goal of developing successful and competitive projects.
