Greece and Turkey sign 15 agreements, memoranda and joint declarations

A total of 15 agreements, memoranda and joint declarations were signed within the framework of the 5th Greece-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council.

Agreement in the Education Sector

The agreement aims to strengthen the cooperation between the Ministries of Education of Greece and Turkey in the field of vocational education. It refers to the recognition of diplomas, the exchange of knowledge and experience, the organization of joint educational activities for teachers and students as well as student exchanges.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ADMIE – TEIAS in the Sector of Electrical Interconnection

The memorandum concerns the creation of a new interconnection line between Nea Santa and Babaeski with the aim of upgrading the Greece and Turkey electrical interconnection and increasing the volume of two-way energy flow by 600 MW.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the Sector of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

The memorandum refers to the development of networking structures between small and medium-sized enterprises of the two countries, as well as mutual information and exchange of best practices to simplify the business environment.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ECG – Eximbak in the Export Sector

The cooperation includes exchange of best practices and know-how, staff training, information and facilitation in problem solving, development of joint research programs in Greece, Turkey and third countries.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) EG – Invest in TR

Mutual information on matters of economic interest, the creation of a stable and flexible investment climate, the promotion and expansion of cooperation between businesses, the development of mutually beneficial investment programs are foreseen.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between EG – TOBB in the Sector of Investment/Business

Cooperation includes, among others, the development of strategies to increase trade and business missions, exchange of information and know-how, human resource management and sustainable economic development.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the Social Services Sector

The memorandum promotes cooperation for the development of strategies and services with the aim of equal access and inclusion of people with special needs in the social network. In this context, the exchange of good practices and know-how in the field of social welfare, the organization of conferences and seminars for the elimination of inequalities, the improvement of accessibility, and the care of the disabled are envisaged.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the Sports Sector

The memorandum replaces the older Protocol of 2013 and promotes the strengthening of the institution of the Olympic Games, enhances cooperation and exchanges between national federations and sports.

Joint Declaration on cooperation in Tourism Sector

The two sides recognize the role of tourism as a bridge of cooperation between the two peoples and its contribution to economic development and support of professionals, businesses and local communities. In this context, they agree that the Joint Tourism Committee meets every year in order to promote the direct cooperation of travel agencies and tourist agents, to strengthen the exchange of good practices and experiences, to explore the possibilities for joint tourism investments, with the ultimate goal of increasing tourism arrivals.

Joint Declaration GGET-TUBITAK for cooperation in the Research and Innovation Sector

The national research and technology bodies of the two countries, with the aim of continuing and expanding their scientific cooperation, confirm their intention to announce a joint tender in the fields of: life sciences, health, pharmaceuticals, agri-food, circular economy, sustainable energy, building materials, culture, tourism and creative industry.

Joint Declaration on the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JEC – JETCO)

The two sides agree on convening the 6th Session of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee. The Turkish side has proposed that it will be held on February 2, 2024 in Istanbul. Trade, energy, transport and tourism issues will be discussed at the session.

Joint Declaration on cooperation in the field of Rural Development

The two sides express their intention to proceed with the exchange of know-how in the field of agricultural crops, to cooperate in dealing with floods or droughts, to cooperate in the prevention and treatment of forest fires, to fight against illegal fishing, to promote research in the field of rural development.

Joint Declaration on Customs Cooperation

The two sides reaffirm their commitment to further develop cooperation between customs authorities.

Joint Statement/Declaration on the Hackathon organization

The two sides plan to organize an online competition with the active participation of secondary school students, higher education students, start-ups, chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries. Participants will be invited to submit ideas and proposals on issues of environmental protection and everyday life in an urban environment.

Joint Declaration regarding the technical committee for the 2nd bridge on the Evros – EGNATIA

The two sides acknowledge the progress over the construction of the second cross-border bridge in the Kipi – Ipsala area, which is supervised by Egnatia Odos S.A., and announce the next meeting of technical committees and experts.
