The special importance of the logistics sector was underlined in the first Growthfund Summit organized in Athens.
The speakers also referred to the opportunities and challenges, while pointing out the need to advance projects in Greece’s infrastructure, with an emphasis on the railway network.
“A great effort is being made so that the Athens-Thessaloniki railway connection will be restarted in the coming days with at least one line for freight transport for the first 10 days, while our goal is to cover a part of the passenger traffic during the Christmas period,” the general secretary of Transport Ioannis Xifaras said.
Referring to the next steps for railway infrastructure, he emphasized that 530 new hirings are expected, stressing that there is a great need to transfer know-how to new executives, a process that “froze” during the crisis.
He underlined the importance of connecting the ports with the railway, while he mentioned that the Greek government is in a process of discussions with the Italian state for possible modifications to the concession contract of the network in order to be more beneficial for the Greek passenger public as well as for the investor.
