The Greek Merchant Fleet showed a small decrease in August 2023, while a drop was also recorded in the total tonnage of all ship categories, with the largest in cargo and tankers.
According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the Greek Merchant Fleet decreased by 0.4% in August 2023 compared with August 2022, and now counts 1,822 ships. An increase of 0.2% was recorded in August 2022 compared with August 2021.
The gross tonnage of the Greek Merchant Fleet, for vessels of 100 GRT and over, recorded a decrease of 3.6% in August 2023 compared with August 2022. A decrease of 1.4% was recorded in August 2022 compared with August 2021, the same announcement said.
Cargo and tankers recorded the largest drop, -5.2% and 3.1% respectively.
