A tin can of olive oil will be sold for more than 170 euros, said Myron Chiletzakis, Vice President of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Heraklion on Naftemporiki TV. According to him, the main reason is climate change.
“The borders are closing. We are not talking about exports. Our country will have to buy oil to cover its needs,” he pointed out, adding that “both Spain and Italy will record huge increases.”
“The price of olive oil is affected by the price of Spain. Since Spain’s production has significant problems, it is logical that all of Europe will be affected,” he estimated.
“The big problem is that the nutritional conditions will change. This is a big concern for producers, as it will backfire on us in the coming years,” he said.
