The ESG Shipping Awards 2023 conference, organized by Elena Athousaki and Katerina Stathopoulou, is a leading initiative to promote sustainable governance in shipping. The conference took place in a central hotel in Athens with more than 450 participants.
The event provided a platform for insightful discussions, knowledge sharing and networking opportunities.
“As we gather here for this ESG shipping conference, it is imperative that we highlight three fundamental principles that guide our panel discussions and presentations: Inclusivity, Transparency and Engagement,” according to the organizers.
“The Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, together with the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping support the ESG Shipping Awards, in order to encourage and promote the shipping industry to integrate sustainability as a critical and fundamental part of its strategy,” said the Secretary General of Aegean and Insular Policy Manolis Koutoulakis.
Dr. Giorgos Pateras, president of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, stressed the importance of ESG reporting and announced the chamber’s ESG guidelines.
On her part, Julia Tseti, president of the Hellenic UN Global Compact Network, emphasized: “We have developed a series of initiatives that help shipping companies move towards the goal of sustainability, providing information, education, open dialogues and actions.”
Participants listened to inspiring speeches from seven panels led by recognized experts in the field. A wide range of topics were discussed throughout the conference, including decarbonization, circular economy, health and safety culture, people’s well-being and development, social responsibility initiatives and the integration of ESG into corporate governance structures.
