Greek wine and the challenges it faces

"The biggest problem we face in Greece is, above all, the lack of water in the vineyard"

“The turnover of Greek wine in exports totaled 100 million euros in 2022, 57 million in the EU and the rest in third countries,” Aris Spaidiotis, Skouras Estate export manager, said in an interview with Naftemporiki TV.

He also spoke about the development of Greek wine, its promotion and prominence in foreign markets.

More specifically, he stated that “it is an increase of 21% in the EU proportionally and about 11% in third countries.” He also pointed out that not only did exports increase as turnover, but the average export unit price also rose, a very important element in the wine market.

Explaining the greatest challenges affecting Greek wine, he talked about how weather conditions affect production, saying that “the biggest problem we face in Greece is, above all, the lack of water in the vineyard.”

He also spoke about the Belgian exhibition, an effort together with the Hellenic Wine Association and the Greek wineries to enter the Belgian market and claim a large share of the large producing regions such as France, Spain and Italy.
