Five members of the Greek humanitarian mission to Libya have lost their lives, according to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.
More specifically, three officers of the Armed Forces and two interpreters who participated in the Greek mission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are dead.
A total of 19 people participated in the mission to provide assistance to the residents of Libya following the devastating consequences of the storm ‘Daniel’.
The mission was en route to the flood-ravaged city of Derna when its bus collided with a vehicle moving in the opposite direction.
The causes and circumstances of the incident are still unknown.
The Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias announced three days of national mourning in the Greek Armed Forces for the fatal traffic accident in Libya, in which 5 members of the Greek mission lost their lives.
