The firefighting forces were fighting the flames in Rhodes, Corfu, Egio, Karystos and Yliki with airplanes starting to operate early on Monday.
In Rhodes, 266 firefighters with 55 water trucks and 16 teams of firefighters on foot were operating all night. Three helicopters and three airplanes have assisted their efforts since Monday morning.
In Corfu, the fire is raging in the northeastern part of the island. A total of 62 firefighters with 21 water trucks and three groups of firefighters on foot are operating, assisted by two helicopters and two PZL airplanes. Meanwhile, 59 people were evacuated from Nissaki.
Scattered outbreaks are also recorded in Karystos while the villages of Platis Gialos, Livadi, Kastri, Potami, Pernaraki and Platanistos have been evacuated following messages sent via 112 to the residents of the areas. A total of 77 firefighters, 25 water trucks, three teams of firefighters on foot and three aircraft are operating.
In Egio, the village Trapeza was evacuated with a message sent via the emergency number 112 as well as the village Kastro Aegialia, as the fire continues to burn on a nearby hill. A total of 99 firefighters, 35 water trucks and four teams on foot, two aircraft, two helicopters and the Olympos operational centre are operating in the area.
Moreover, 60 firefighters, 21 water trucks, three teams on foot, two helicopters and two airplanes are operating to extinguish the fire in Yliki.
